_____An assignment for one of my early Graphic Design classes at UTK, this book cover and spine were an enjoyable learning experience. My first design had been too literal, and gave away the plot of the book. This second attempt aimed more to capture the atmosphere of the setting while only hinting at the conflict in the story. Probably more than any other, this assignment helped me to understand what I was really doing, and how to approach any given project. It taught me some of the important questions to ask when I'm starting, such as, "what do I want this to say, how much, and why?" I'm not certain this book cover is completely successful (though I might argue that it is more-so than the actual one!), but I think it is enough so to make it into my portfolio. That, and it performs the function of adding some context to my newer work.
