_____This image isn't included for its design quality so much as what it represents in my academic career. At this time I was chair of SOMA, and vice-chair of VAC. Outside of academia, I spent some time with the Knoxville Bike Collective, as well as the good folks that run Tennessee Valley Bicycles. With the inclusion of my role-models, Kelly Seagers of the Knoxville Transportation Org., I wanted to bring all these together in one event for two reciprocal causes they all shared a passion for - the Earth, and in one way or another, bicycles. I planned this event essentially from nothing, and for a first-ever try at such a thing, I believe it went quite well. Each group had a tent set up and had information to provide to anyone walking by. People were encouraged to ride their bikes to the event, and there were many kinds available to try at the courtyard if a passer-by didn't have one, or if they did - and wanted to try something new. There were maps of bike routes and lists of bike laws. Tips on bike repair and free simple on-spot maintenance. This was a great learning experience, and an excellent exercise in networking. Before my time with these student organizations, I never would have thought I could personally organize an event from an idea in my head. I extend my thanks to all involved for this powerful experience.
